The purpose of MILE is to establish and sustain Knowlegde Management (KM) services that support eThekwini Municipality’s vision to be a learning City.
MILE has developed this strategy to institutionalise and mainstream knowledge management. It has been developed to promote and encourage the practices of knowledge-sharing and -management through the deployment of KM tools and processes in collaboration with a variety of partners.
MILE’s three-year strategic objectives (2010 to 2013), on knowledge management and innovation provides guidance to ensure a stronger culture and practice of innovation and knowledge management. 
The KM Strategic Framework organises activities by their impact on knowledge generation, capture, sharing, and application.
