Managers prepare to gear up for COP 17
International delegates will converge in Durban later this year for COP 17/CMP 7 the biggest climate change conference to hit Africa. With this in mind, over 120 senior officials of eThekwini Municipality, the host city spent the afternoon of 12 September 2011 discussing how to prepare for this major event and, more particularly finding their role in the fight to save our planet.

This sixth MILE Management Seminar gave officials a comprehensive look into the negotiations surrounding climate change adaptation and mitigation. This was addressed by the DDG: Department of Environmental Affairs and Agriculture, Mr Alf Wills, one of South Africa’s critical negotiators around Climate Change.

Ms Julie-May Ellingson (the CEO of the ICC, a venue where the event will be held) and Ms Sue Bannister, Deputy Head of the City’s Special Projects Unit provided an in depth look into the plans the municipality has for this historic event and what hosting this event means for Durban and South Africa at large.

Managers were urged to think about what this event means for their respective units, and how to maximise the developmental benefits of this event for the local people of the city.
