Seated in the front row from left to right is the Director of Planning for Lilongwe, CEO of Lilongwe Mr VPV Mulula, Secretary for Local Government and Rural Development Mr Kaphaizi, UCLG Project Manager, Sara Hoeflich de Duque, Adele Hosken from Cities Alliance together with the Director of Engineering from Mzuzu and Mzuzu officials.

The Municipal Technical Support (MTS) team recently attended a review workshop at Lilongwe, the capital and largest city of Malawi. The purpose of the workshop was to review the mentorship programme between eThekwini Municipality and Mzuzu thus far.

Mzuzu has been mentored by eThekwini Municipality to develop a Strategic Plan and the Mzuzu City Council is currently implementing a strategic action plan. The MTS team advised them to undertake a public participation process. Ongoing mentorship and assistance will be given to Mzuzu. This can be through the MILE Master Classes that are facilitated by eThekwini officials who are experts in their field to assist the Mzuzu City Council.

Also conducting their mentorship review workshop at the same venue was Lilongwe City who is currently being mentored by the City of Johannesburg.
