City draws key lessons from International Study

MILE secured an opportunity with the University of KwaZulu-Natal (UKZN) school of Development Studies to provide an insight into the findings and key recommendations of an international study on participatory budgeting and fiscal decentralisation authored by UKZN academic researcher, Glen Robbins.

This learning Exchange was hosted by eThekwini’s Treasury Cluster on February 5th, 2013 at the Florence Mkhize Building in central Durban.
The presentation focused on the Durban case study and provided the ideal platform for drawing lessons from the key findings depicted in the study. It also served as a catalyst for an internal reflection on the City’s public participation process.

The key objective of forging a closer working relationship between the line departments and academia was seen as a positive outcome.
