The improvement of the social condition, the built environment and the local economy of the area are interrelated in the sense that positive changes in one dimension (social, physical and economic) will lead to changes in the others. This is the presupposition of UNISAs Brightsite Project during a presentation made at the 4th Built Environment Seminar held on 26 April 2013 at the Durban Botanical Conference Hall.

The event jointly hosted by MILE and the University of South African (UNISA) provided for a rich and exciting  discussion on mandate of social interventions, value  of social workers in urban development and its contribution to improving the quality of life of local residents. The plenary session was energised through the inputs of students who were serious about contributing to the betterment of communities.

A student who attended the event found the content interesting and worthwhile.

“We as students would like to get more involved in social development and the built environment. We can play in big role in helping develop communities,” said the enthused student.
