Tourism Master Class kicks off at Moses Mabhida Stadium

With Durban clenching the title of 'Friendliest City', tourism practitioners from all over South Africa converged at the Moses Mabhida Stadium to attend the first Tourism and Eventing Master Class.

Hosted by MILE in partnership with Durban Tourism, the three-day Master Class saw practitioners learn, share and engage on learnings on tourism and the hosting of big events.

Highlights from day one include, the official opening of the event done by eThekwini Municipality Speaker, Cllr Logie Naidoo who provided delegates with a brief outlook of the journey of tourism in Durban. Thereafter Philip Sithole (Head: Business Support, Markets and Tourism) provided a snapshot of the Durban tourism industry.

Each session was accompanied by invigorating panel discussions which provided the ideal platform for participants engage with the presenter and ask pertinent questions. One of the highlights was a panel discussion with the ED from Tsogo Sun, the CEO of the Durban Chamber and the CEO of KZN Tourism.

The second day got off with an excellent start with power presentations from Julie-May Ellingston (CEO: Durban ICC) and Perry Moodley (Manager: Business Support). They argued for a more proactive role to be taken by local government in supporting and promoting tourism.
