COP: Legislative implications and impact of planning and development
Communities of Practice (COP) are fast becoming part of the organizational culture of the eThekwini Municipality.

Recently, the Departments of Environmental Management, Land Use Management and Development Management hosted a Community of Practice session in partnership with MILE.

MILE facilitates COP sessions whereby people with a common interest come together to share insights, experiences and knowledge on a particular subject.

This session focused around the legislative implications and impact of planning and development as it affects all the departments in the delivery of their mandate.

It was noted that the “gaps and overlaps” that exist in legislation governing each application process need to be rationalized in order to enable and fast track enhanced service delivery. Despite the challenges raised, a set of recommendations were put forward as solutions to entangle bottlenecks in the approval of plans.

More critical knowledge areas will be identified and a number of COP sessions will held in future across all clusters, units and departments of the municipality.

A detailed learning note will be published soon.
