Over 60 technical practitioners and political leadership supporting the implementation of the National Building Regulations converged in Durban at the
UKZN UNITE Building for MILE’s very first Master Class on Developmental Management.
Hosted by eThekwini Municipality‘s Development Planning Unit, in partnership with MILE, practitioners from various municipalities in Building Inspectorate and Enforcement departments shared lessons learnt from their experiences and critical insights into the improvement of the sector.
The official welcome was done by the Speaker of
eThekwini Municipality, Councillor Logie Naidoo who explained how MILE has developed over the years and highlighted the importance of knowledge management and innovation in local government.
The two day master class was packed with expert facilitated sessions, informative presentations and field visits to the Durban CBD to look at the type of development taking place in the City.
Tracey Gamede a Building Inspector at Umngeni Municipality was pleased with the content of the Master Class.
“I have learned a lot from the presentations. We should have more engagements like this in the future. I will recommend MILE courses to my colleagues back home,” said Gamede.
Ms. Londiwe Mthabela from the City of Johannesburg who has attended previous MILE Master Classes found the course informative.
“I gained so much of knowledge to share with my colleagues back home. MILE rocks! I will recommend other councillors to attend MILE Master Classes so that they can perform their oversight role,” said the enthusiastic Cllr Mthabela.
Officials left the Master Class with renewed inspiration to make a difference within their Building Inspectorate departments at their respective municipalities.
