Trenchless Technology Workshop for local municipalities

MILE partnered with the Centre of Expertise recently to host a workshop to equip municipalities with the latest information on technologies in the water and sanitation sector.

The Centre of Expertise is an initiative of the eThekwini Water and Sanitation (EWS) aimed at improving the water supply and sanitation agencies by introducing Dutch Knowledge and Technology.

Simon Scruton, Senior Manager at EWS Non-Revenue Water explained the purpose of the Worksop.

“This workshop is part of MILE’s technical support programme, in support of the Nepad initiative of assisting and educating municipalities in Water and Sanitation.”

Facilitated by Jeroen Bosboom from the Centre of Expertise, the workshop provided participants with an introduction to trenchless technology.
“We made participants familiar and provided real solutions together with generic specifications that will allow them to implement trenchless technology in their workplace.”

Moses Sibeko, a Water Treatment Superintendent from Uthukela Municipality found the workshop to be informative and interesting.

“The new technologies mentioned in this workshop have been an eye opener. Going forward we will formulate a business plan for a project on trenchless technology. We currently have a problem with aging infrastructure that needs to be replaced. We will definitely use the knowledge gained  from today’s workshop. Once again we are grateful to MILE for this innovation workshop.”
