MILE meets Presidency officials
News of the important contribution that eThekwini Municipality’s Municipal Institute of Learning (MILE) has been making to South African and African municipalities  has reached the Presidency’s office. A delegation from the Department of Performance  Monitoring and Evaluation in the Presidency,  were received by MILE and the International Relations Office with the objective of these senior officials learning and sharing good practice,  as well as deepening their understanding of the city’s knowledge management and capacity enhancement programmes.

A presentation explaining the structure of MILE and how it operates was done to Ms Nox Chipeto, Director and Ms Futhi Umlaw, Deputy Director in the Presidency.  Umlaw commended MILE on the efforts they make to enhance capacity within local government and to document institutional knowledge. She said there were many lessons  that they were  taking back to the Presidency, which will assist the Department in advancing its programmes and becoming more effective.

Mr Sogen Moodley, Senior Manager for MILE, said they were humbled to have hosted the delegates from the Presidency “The purpose of MILE is to facilitate the enhancement of professional and technical capacity of local government professionals on the African continent and of course to position the eThekwini Municipality as a platform for innovating, learning and sharing with other municipalities, associations and networks, both locally and internationally. We are indeed privileged to be afforded this opportunity to make a difference in building our continent!”
