EThekwini shortlisted for ‘Excellence in City Transformation’
ETHEKWINI Municipality through its Municipal Institute of Learning (MILE) has been shortlisted for the Financial Times/International Finance Corporation 2015 Transformational Business Awards competing against 140 countries in various categories.
The awards showcase ‘ground-breaking business initiatives that create long-term, transformative solutions to environmental, social and corporate governance challenges.’ This year’s awards attracted 191 entries from 167 organisations.
MILE will represent the City under the ‘Excellence in City Transformation’ category against the Agra Municipal Council- India, Barcelona City Council- Spain, Monrovia City Corporation- Liberia, the Municipality of Dakar and the City of Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.
Mayor James Nxumalo said that MILE has been instrumental in its role as a knowledge sharing hub assisting provincial municipalities to map the way towards urban transformation and at the same time co-ordinates knowledge management programmes throughout the African continent.
All nominees will attend a one-day Transformational Business Conference, with ‘policy-makers, business leaders and strategists from around the world to discuss new ways of tackling the key challenges facing emerging economies and societies in London on 11 June 2015.
