In the spirit of Youth month, Saturday 20 June 2015 provided an ideal opportunity for a group of energetic students from Duke University (USA) to engage with the youth of Chatsworth.
This is a follow up to the 2014 Duke engagement with international student exposure to learn more about the Welbedagt East community. Sports is a powerful means to bring together partners with a common sense of purpose and MILE seized this opportunity to strengthen the city-university relationship with its international academic partner, Duke University in the area of community-based learning. As emerging leaders to some of the challenges facing all, youth from these communities had an opportunity to engage, share experiences and improve their understanding of global issues affecting society and how youth could respond to these challenges. In wrapping up the weekend learning exchange, a colloquium which included local academic partners focused on service learning and the role of academia, NGOs and communities bridging theory with practice.
