Post-Graduate Support for City Officials
EThekwini officials enrolled for post-graduate degrees attended a research support workshop from 5- 6 November 2015. This workshop was the first in a series of workshops that aims at supporting city officials in their post graduate studies.
This pilot programme targeting Master and Doctoral studies is a joint program between MILE and Ethekwini Municipal Academy (EMA). Whilst serving primarily as a support program to city officials, the program is also aimed at encouraging evidence based research outputs to influence city policy.  This also links well to the knowledge management plan within the city.
Fezile Njokweni attended the course and was impressed with the standard of the course.
“The Research Methodology (RM) workshop gave me some basic knowledge of undertaking academic research; techniques for the collection of data; the use of questionnaires, experimentation and interpreting results systematically. The knowledge that I accumulated at the RM workshop will enable me as a prospective researcher to do better and informed research.  I will be able to develop disciplined thinking that will allow me to observe the field objectively with logic and an understanding of systems thinking, said Njokweni.”
