Sustainable and Effective Revenue Management for Municipalities

MILE in partnership with eThekwini Municipality's Revenue Management Unit and Cities Alliance hosted its 8th Master Class on Sustainable and Effective Revenue Management from 18-20 November 2015.

About 55 practitioners attended the Master Class which featured informative presentations and facilitated discussion sessions.

The course is aimed at strengthening the capacity of local authorities and improving the delivery of services to their citizens.

Beyond fostering the building of local government practitioner capacity on the continent, the Master Class gave the participants an opportunity to learn from each other.

The Master Class targeted African countries and South African Municipalities who require assistance in financial management within their municipalities. Experts in the field of Finance, Water and Sanitation, Electricity, Property Evaluation, Metering Systems, Rates and Tariffs, Government Administration and Customer Services, shared their experiences and knowledge of these sectors.

A highlight from the event included a site visit to eThekwini’s Revenue Management Customer Services Call Centre during day two, were delegates were exposed to the structure and operating systems within the centre.

Jeredine Chambers from Paynesville City Corporation   in Liberia was impressed with the contents of the Master Class.

"I was captivated with the  eThekwini Revenue Customer Call Centre. I will be taking back a lot of knowledge and learning's from this Master Class to implement within the municipality I work for," said Chambers.

Participants left the Master Class with practical ideas and tools that will enable them to improve the revenue collection systems, identify new sources of revenue and implement a revenue management strategy.
