Officials rethink Water and Sanitation
About 50 municipal officials from  South African Municipalities and a delegation from the  City of Harare in Zimbabwe attended the  7th Master Class on Water and Sanitation,  held from 19-21 April 2016 at the Moses Mabhida Stadium.
Hosted by eThekwini Water and Sanitation Unit (EWS) in partnership with SALGA and MILE, the course included informative presentations by experts drawn from the eThekwini Municipality.
The Master Class was developed by the eThekwini Water and Sanitation Unit (EWS) to provide participants with knowledge and tools on how to best alleviate water and sanitation challenges in rural and urban areas, showcasing eThekwini’s best practices in the sector. Participants who complete the course will earn three CPD (Continuous Professional Development) Points from IMESA.
Officials enthusiastically tackled modules seeing first-hand the type of infrastructure eThekwini has in place with the EWS department always clinching top awards.
During Day two, they were taken on site visits to Newlands-KwaMashu, DEWATS plant and community Gardens, Verulam Treatment Works, Tongaat Waste Water Treatment Works and the EWS Call Centre to see the various water and sanitation projects executed by the Municipality.
With expert facilitation, the participants were impressed with the Master Class content and the innovation that was showcased during the sessions.

Tapiwa Richard Kunyadini from the City of Harare felt the Master Class was a brilliant collaboration platform for sharing ideas.

“The Master Class should be a must to those who work in local government and have a passion to make their cities world class,” said Tapiwa.

They left the Water and Sanitation Master Class inspired to make positive changes in the water sector within their municipalities.
