AFUS which is chaired by the City of Durban enables and facilitates peer-to-peer knowledge sharing and joint knowledge generation, support and collaboration. The forum enables evidence-based learning to inform urban policy, planning and management in order to build safer cities in Africa.
About 100 delegates featuring Mayors and urban practitioners attended the Learning Exchange which seeks to set the scene for actions which support the implementation of Sustainable Development Goals, African Vision 2063 and contribute to the Habitat3 process.
In his official welcome, the Mayor of
eThekwini Municipality, Cllr. James Nxumalo mentioned the importance of implementing crime prevention strategies within the continent.
"Safety, crime prevention and security have been identified as the cornerstone for growth and development of our cities. It is also the primary outcome for sustainable urban development agenda as reflected in the
Sustainable Development Goal 11," said Cllr. Nxumalo.
