MILE scoops SAPI Planning Award
EThekwini Municipality’s Municipal Institute of Learning (MILE) received the South African Planning Institute (SAPI) award for contribution to the planning profession and built environment at the SAPI Planning Africa Gala Dinner held yesterday at the Sandton Convention Centre in Johannesburg.

SAPI is a voluntary organisation of professional planners established in 1996.

The 7th Planning Africa Conference was hosted by SAPI in partnership with the Gauteng Province from 4-6 July 2016. The theme of the conference was “Making sense of the future: Disruption and reinvention”. It aimed to discuss planning problems nationally and internationally, and promote sustainable spatial development in South Africa and the rest of the continent.

The SAPI Award was received by Deputy Head: eThekwini Municipality Development Planning and Environmental Management Unit, Mr Lihle Phewa.

The SAPI Planning Awards recognises planners working in both the public and private sector in South Africa. It acknowledges the valuable contributions that individuals and organisations make, to inspire their continued involvement and those of others and to promote the key role of the planning profession in public life.

The award signifies the important role the City plays in shaping the built environment and promoting sustainable development.
