A New Vision for our Collective Urban Future

Habitat III will take centre stage next month in Quito, Ecuador and is set to reinvigorate the global commitment to sustainable urbanization and the implementation of a “New Urban Agenda. In preparation for the conference, MILE hosted its' latest Management Seminar focusing on what the new strategy around urbanization means for local government practitioners within eThekwini Municipality.

The Thought Leader for the session was Dr Shipra Narang Suri, Vice-President of the General Assembly of Partners towards Habitat III, Co-Chair of the World Urban Campaign and Vice-President of the International Society of City and Regional Planners (ISOCARP).

During her presentation, Dr Suri enlightened officials with her inputs on what it means to build sustainable and inclusive cities. She also relected on why Habitat III is important for local government practitioners.

The all women panel of respondents for the seminar were, Dr Debra Roberts, Head: Sustainable City Initiatives in the Chief Strategy Office,eThekwini Municipality and  Dr Geci Karuri-Sebina from the South African Cities Network (SACN) who shared a South African perspective on Habitat III.
