eThekwini Officials grapple with issues on the Ingonyama Trust Land
eThekwini officials together with officials from COGTA and the Department of Transport (DOT) attended a workshop from 28-30 September 2016  at the Catalytic Project’s boardroom at the Lion Match Factory.
The purpose of the workshop was to look at the Ingonyama Trust land that falls within the jurisdiction of the municipality.   Delegates discussed, debated and shared issues around governance, legal, planning, infrastructure and finance of the Ingonyama Trust Land.
On the first day of the workshop delegates were taken on a field trip to one of the pilot areas, Umnini.  During day two, Catherine Sutherland, a lecturer at the University of KwaZulu Natal delivered a challenging and informative presentation on the Ingonyama Trust land.
A seven point strategic action plan was developed that would drive the way forward.  The Strategic Action Plan will be managed by the Task Team which will be in the Office of Deputy City Manager (DCM): Economic Development & Planning and will be chaired by the DCM.
The formation of a Reference Group was agreed upon by all stakeholders.  The Reference Group will be called, ‘The eThekwini Traditional Land Development Reference Group.’
