Western Cape SALGA Creates a Platform for Municipalities to Discuss the Alignment between the NDP, IUDF & IDP
At this time of the year most organisations are winding down the 2016 year.  In contrast Western Cape SALGA is still working vigorously to create a platform for their municipalities to discuss the alignment between the IUDF, NDP and IDP.

On Monday 5 December 2016 senior politicians and council officials from all the municipalities in the Western Cape, SALGA, COGTA, DLG, DEA&DP, DOTP gathered at the Western Cape SALGA offices in Strand Street, Cape Town to deliberate the alignment of the IUDF, NDP and IDP.  The workshop was facilitated by MILE as part of the Municipal Technical Support Programme.

Robust discussions ensued at the facilitated World Café sessions.  There were three themes that were discussed viz Public Participation and Good Governance, Transversal Management: Vertical and Horizontal Alignment, Integrated Planning.  At the Public Participation and Good Governance session, delegates deliberated on new, dynamic and exciting ways for stakeholders to participate, including the creative use of technology.  They also explored some creative, innovative ways of improving the effectiveness of ward committees.  In the Transversal Management: Vertical and Horizontal Alignment facilitated session they looked at the underlying causes of misalignment and suggested possible creative solutions to overcome this.  They further explored how transversal management can be institutionalised at a municipal level.  At the Integrated Planning session they discussed the underlying causes preventing the IDP’s from achieving sustainable local governments.  They further went on to suggest some creative solutions to these challenges.

A learning note that documents all the learning's from the workshop will be emailed to all the workshop participants and to National SALGA so that these learning's can be shared with other municipalities.
