Stakeholders talk on International Learning Exchange Programmes
EThekwini Municipality has a relationship with 17 sister cities formalised through MOU’s. One of areas of collaboration specified in these MOUs is information sharing and learning. As part of implementation of MOUs, the municipality has been assisting international students with experiential learning within the Municipality where these students get an opportunity to participate in departmental activities.  Some departments that have had an opportunity to host these students include ABM, City engineering and MILE.

In support of this initiative the EThekwini Municipal Academy (EMA) hosted a Seminar on 27th July 2017 at the Durban Botanic Gardens Conference Centre to discuss the International Learning Exchange Programme.

EThekwini Municipality, Deputy City Manager Corporate & Human Resources, Ms Dumisile Nene officially welcomed stakeholders to the Seminar and emphasised importance of having such initiates.

“The purpose of this session is to streamline processes for inbound and outbound exchange programmes and forge an agreement with internal stakeholders on systems to be developed to ensure smooth implementation of international exchange programmes,” said Ms Nene.

Dr Mpilo Ngubane, Head of the newly established EThekwini Municipal Academy whilst setting the scene for the Seminar, placed much emphasis on municipal departments working together to implement the Programme.

Mr Eric Apelgren, Head: eThekwini Municipality’s Inter-Governmental Relation Unit shared the scope of international opportunities for this initiative.

“There are many international scholarships available. We have to be part of the global village. We need to create more opportunities to share knowledge, said Apelgren.

Internal and external departments that have hosted international students were also given an opportunity to share their experiences in the exchange programme.

Mr Bongani Mathe from the Office of the Premier, showcased the platform the department has to share information about International Scholarships available for youth. Fore more information vist:  http://www.kznyis.gov.za/
