Metro’s Engagement on Disaster Relief Practice in Disaster Management Interventions
On Thursday 14 September 2017 Metro’s ​gathered at the SALGA House on Strand Street Cape Town to participate in a workshop on Disaster Relief.

Facilitated by MILE, the workshop was attended by 50 delegates from National, Provincial and Local government, Academia and the Private Sector.

The focus of the workshop was to:-

Share experiences on Social Relief in dealing with fires in Informal                       Settlements, Droughts, Floods, Xenophobia and the Water Crisis
Share knowledge on managing the Social Relief System 
Clarify Gaps and Challenges with recommendations
 
The presentations encouraged lively debates and discussions.  Delegates shared their experiences, frustrations, challenges and lessons learnt.

It was agreed by all that South Africa has one of the best Disaster Management Acts and Frameworks in the world.  However there were shortfallS with regards to the implementation of the Act.

SALGA agreed that this workshop will not just be a once off workshop but that there would be ongoing opportunities for knowledge sharing.
