Practitioners gather on World Cities Day to tackle Strategic Planning and Performance Information in Cities
As Cities around the world come together to promote the international community’s interest in global urbanization and sustainable urban development on World Cities Day. EThekwini Municipality kicked off with day one of its' a Policy Implementation and Learning Session to empower practitioners to implement Strategic Planning and Performance Information concepts within their cities. The learning session was held at the Moses Mabhida Stadium from 31st of October to 3rd of November 2017. 
 
The eThekwini Municipality‘s Performance Management and Evaluation, the KwaZulu-Natal Department of Cooperative Governance and Traditional Affairs (KZNCOGTA), in partnership with MILE conceptualised the Policy Implementation and Learning Session.
 
The aim of the event was to empower performance management practitioners and IDP Managers to improve on institutional support for monitoring and evaluation.
 
The four day learning session was facilitated by MILE and the Performance Monitoring and Evaluation Unit. EThekwini Municipality has been innovative in its approach and enjoyed recognition for building organisational efficiency in its strategic monitoring and evaluation.
 
Practitioners discussed legislative aspects, the integration of PME on municipal Integrated Development Plans (IDP) and streamlining key indicators for PME in line with the Back to Basics Programme. The learning session focussed on also included: Visioning and Strategic Planning,  Organisational Performance Management, Auditing and Evaluations of Performance and Individual Performance Management Systems  amongst other vital PME concepts.
 
The Master Class provided an opportunity for government practitioners to engage on improving performance monitoring in cities and deliberate on key matters emerging in the implementation of PME in local government. 
 
In line with the Back to Basics Programme, the Learning Session blended the critical aspects on the Integrated Development Planning process towards building a successful Performance Management System.
