City hosts Fraud Awareness Seminar
The eThekwini Municipality in partnership with the Association of Certified Fraud Examiners (ACFE) commemorated International Fraud Awareness Week (IFAW) that is celebrated from 12- 18 November 2017, by hosting a seminar on 15 November at the Durban Exhibition Centre.

International Fraud Awareness Week is celebrated globally in November each year as a campaign to minimize the impact of fraud by raising awareness through education. The City Investigations Unit mobilised all stakeholders to elevate its efforts to fight against fraud and corruption in the Municipality. 

Head of City Investigations Mbuso Ngcobo speaking at the opening of the Fraud and Corruption Seminar said that corruption is harmful to economic development since it increases the risk and uncertainty faced by potential investors. In his address Ngcobo also spoke about the important role the City Investigations Unit plays in fighting fraud & corruption. 

Representing Mayor Zandile Gumede at Seminar, Cllr Nkosenhle Madlala officially welcomed participants. Cllr Madlala called on the business sector, to promote ethical behaviour in their dealings with the City. 

Jaco de Jager, CEO of the Association for Certified Fraud Examiners (ACFE) said that the seriousness of the global fraud problem is one of the reasons ACFE started the International Fraud Awareness Week. In his address the also mentioned the importance of working together to fight Fraud & Corruption

The Keynote Speaker of the event was Peter Gross, Managing Director of Sizwe Ntsaluba Goboda who shared guidance on corporate governance and illicit conduct for boards, management, company secretaries, and combined insurance providers.
