Practitioners discuss Performance Improvement for Water and Sanitation
Water Practitioners from various municipalities across the country converged at the Moses Mabhida Stadium from 13th to 14th of February to actively participate in the 6th series of the Water Services Master Class.

The Master Class was a collaborative initiative between the Municipal Benchmarking Initiative (MBI), the South African Local Government Association (SALGA), Water Research Commission (WRC), eThekwini Municipality’s Water and Sanitation Department (EWS) and the Municipal Institute of Learning (MILE).

The informative two day session focussed on Sanitation and Faecal Sludge Management (FSM) – sanitation safety planning, excreta flow diagrams,  Funding Tools for Non-Revenue Water (NRW), Water Conservation, Demand Management and the MBI Scorecard.

EThekwini Water and Sanitation, Deputy Head, Mr Simon Scruton officially welcomed participants to the Water Services Master Class adding that practitioners need to get more innovative in their approach.
"At this event you will learn a different approach in dealing with the water and sanitation sector, said Scruton.

The Master Class provided a dynamic, practical and interactive platform for practitioners to engage and learn from EThekwini good practice.

From theory to practice participants spent the morning of day two of the Master Class on site visits to the Isipingo, Black Soldier Fly project and the Newlands - Mashu Research Facility, showcasing the good practice projects by EWS and various partners.

The Master Class provided practitioners with tools to help motivate funding for cost effective appropriate non-revenue water interventions.

Practitioners who attended the full course will earn two Continuous Professional Development (CPD) points from the Institute of Municipal Engineering South Africa (IMESA).
