City Strives for more Academically Qualified Officials

The 3rd Post Graduate Support Program kicked off on Thursday, 22 Feb 2018 as part of a yearlong program to support city officials undertaking post graduate studies. A cohort of 35 city officials registered for Masters and Doctoral studies at local universities will be supported in a series of 12 workshops in 2018.

In opening this session, Program Manager at Municipal Institute of Learning (MILE), Collin Pillay commended the cohort for embarking on post graduate studies whilst holding full time employment in the city. He reflected on the popularity and impact of this program which is in its 3rd year and thanked the Head of EThekwini Municipal Academy, Dr Mpilo Ngubane for his continued support and commitment in investing in our city officials.

“EThekwini Municipality is one of the first local government organizations to lead in this area of internalized capacity building,” said Pillay. It was noted that the return for investment made in 2016 is already yielding results as the number of master graduates who have completed are currently pursuing doctoral studies.
