Stakeholders Engage on the Implementation of the Brits CBD Regeneration Plan
Local Economic Development (LED) is becoming widely recognised as a responsibility of local government. The Small Town Regeneration (STR) Programme has been identified as one of the key strategic programmes in helping to unlock economic opportunities in small/rural towns and townships. Through support, coaching and mentoring, these small/rural towns are propelled towards improvement. Brits in Madibeng Local Municipality is one of the three identified pilot areas in the North West Province, whereby the programme is implemented through the LED maturity assessment.

In this regard, the South African Local Government Authority (SALGA), Department of Cooperative Governance (DCoG), the Common Wealth Local Government Forum (CLGF) and MILE partnered in hosting a stakeholder engagement workshop for the implementation of the Brits CBD Regeneration Plan. The engagement took place at Brits, North-West Province from the 19th to the 20th of March 2018.

The overall objective of the engagement was to bring all the relevant stakeholders on board  to solicit support for the implementation of the CBD Regenration Plan. An unprecedented historical moment was shared when overwhelming pledges of comitments were made by private sector and government. These actions left delegates feeling “hopeful” while emphasising the importance of “working together towards a common goal.”
