Partnering For Growth
The City’s Economic Development Cluster is in the process of developing a five year plan (2019-2024) to create inclusive growth for the public, private, educational and business sectors. This process has been titled as “Shape Durban” strategy development seeks to co-create a five-year growth path that is developed, signed, owned and implemented by a cross-section of key economic stakeholders and influencers thereby shaping Durban’s future.
The plan has stemmed from a review of the Municipality’s Job Creation Strategy formulated in 2013 and the new plan will jointly address the obstacles of economic growth and job creation.
City manager Sipho Nzuza said: “We must move to a higher growth path and we acknowledge that there is a need for a fundamental shift in the way strategies are developed, with the focus centred on “partnering for growth.”
The initial step of the strategy development process will be a 3 day workshop/conference from November 21 - 23, 2018 at Durban’s International Convention Centre. This will be the platform to discuss strategic priorities and milestones for the 2019-2025 accelerated and inclusive growth path, which is fundamental for economic growth.
To bolster current partners and stakeholders on board the City will be hosting an informative networking breakfast session to start the conversation and pave the way for further engagements.
