Technology and Innovation in Service Delivery

Technology plays a pivotal role in infrastructure development and economic growth in developing countries. Tremendous strides made in this era have contributed to the capability of information dissemination that has accelerated economies. There are concerns however about the “digital divide” between countries and different sectors of various economies. Knowledge and Information exchange have the power to bridge these gaps and create sustainability for many organisations. In this context MILE together with eThekwini Municipality’s Information Management Unit are hosting a Learning Exchange on Technology and Innovation in Service Delivery.

Currently underway at Moses Mabhida Stadium the aim of the learning exchange is to collaborate with the role players in the different technological sectors to form formidable partnerships that empower data users to deliver on systems that inform and advance service delivery

Day one of the Learning Exchanged began with an official address from the Chairperson: Governance and Human Resources Committee, Councillor Barbara Fortein. Representing the Mayor, Cllr Fortein mentioned the challenges that are facing service delivery and the impact that this is having on the lives of the majority of the people that are living in poverty in our country.

“While we face these challenges, technological megatrends are transforming the way people work, live and communicate with each other. These trends are increasing the digital divide between first world countries and a developing country such as South Africa. Technology plays a significant role in infrastructure development and economic growth in developing countries, said Cllr Fortein.

CEO of Smart Digital, Ms Veronica Motloutsi from delivered the keynote address emphasising the importance of education and being digital disruptive.

"Educate yourself and bring the knowledge into the organisation,” said Veronica Motloutsi.

With informative presentations and facilitated discussions participants will spend the duration of the Learning Exchange to find new ways to plan more effectively, execute projects more efficiently and have visibility from an integrated service delivery perspective.
