In support of International Fraud Awareness week (17-23 November 2019), eThekwini Municipality’s City Integrity and Investigations Unit (CIIU) in partnership with the Association for Certified Fraud Examiners (ACFE) hosted a Fraud Awareness Seminar on 21 November 2019 at the Durban Exhibition Centre.

The Seminar took a critical look at the status of Fraud and Corruption within the City and sought to answer the pertinent question. “Are we winning the war against Fraud and Corruption?”

Fraud Awareness week is a global effort to minimize the impact of fraud by promoting anti-fraud awareness and creating awareness through educational campaigns. This is the fourth Fraud Awareness Seminar hosted by the City.
Mr Mbuso Ngcobo, Head of CIIU mentioned the importance of eradicating fraud and corruption. “Let us fight together against fraud and corruption in the City," said Ngcobo.

Mr Len Coetzee from ACFE said, “Fraud Week is an international initiative and fraud awareness campaigns occur worldwide.”

Junaid Amra from PricewaterhouseCoopers spoke about Cybercrime and the Fourth Industrial Revolution, mentioning the eight technologies that according to PWC have the biggest impact right now. “Organisations need to be aware of the risks associated with using 4IR Technologies in terms of assurance and cyber security, “said Amra.

The event created a platform for engagement on issues of fraud and corruption, encouraging pertinent role players to elevate good governance within their organisations.
