Documenting Lessons Learned from Municipal Services, Projects, and Programmes

The City of Tshwane through its Knowledge Management capability has begun a journey to establish a “Lessons Learned Programme” geared towards putting processes and systems in place to foster and nurture a culture of reflecting learning, documenting and sharing of lessons emanating from operations, services rendered, and projects and programmes implemented (e.g. management of Covid-19, collaborating with partners, handling of service protests and interruptions, etc.) in the municipality.

Part of the implementation of the Lessons Learned Programme is to build capacity and support in the documentation of lessons learned through a series of webinars and workshops. To that effect, the Knowledge Management capability hosted a Webinar on Documenting Lessons Learned from Municipal Services, Projects, and Programmes. The event took place on 31 March 2021 on Microsoft Teams.

The event focused on best practices to document lessons learnt i.e.

• Define the Lessons Learnt Concept

• The value of documenting lessons learned

• Understanding the lessons learned processes and practices

• Guidelines for capturing and sharing lessons learned

• Share lessons learned case studies

MILE Program Manager, Knowledge Management Mrs Deshini Pillay shared the MILE experience in documenting lessons learned and Dr. Nditsheni David Makhado the Chief Director of Research and Knowledge Management in the Department of Planning, Monitoring and Evaluation (DPME) spoke about Documenting Lessons Learned: Drawing Lessons from The Covid-19 Country Report.
